Map of CCCE Commercial Customer Enrollment
About
Lumina Decision Systems received a grant from the Central Coast Community Energy (CCCE) Electrification Education Grant Program in the Summer of 2021. Our goal is to further building electrification for CCCE customers by accelerating adoption of electric heat pumps for water and space heating.
The economic and climate advantages of heat pumps are poorly understood by homeowners, managers of commercial buildings, and even many HVAC contractors. That’s why we are developing information to explain the financial and environmental benefits of switching from conventional gas-powered heating systems to electric heat pumps.
Project Goals
Develop the Heat Pump Evaluation Tool
The heart of this project is to develop an innovative and easy-to-use online calculator (the Heat Pump Evaluation Tool) to estimate the costs, savings, energy use and greenhouse gas emissions of heat pumps relative to conventional HVAC systems. Whether you are a homeowner, contractor, or an early career HVAC technician, our tool is designed to bring clarity to the costs and environmental benefits of switching to electric heat pumps. The tool uses Analytica, Lumina’s flagship software platform, to create an interactive, robust, and easy to understand assessment of various heat pumps and their benefits.
Create an online learning hub
In addition to providing a tool to evaluate heat pumps, we are developing educational information about how heat pumps work, the different types of heat pumps, and a list of local installers on the Central Coast.
Empower the next generation of technicians
We are partnering with local community colleges and trade schools to educate early career HVAC technicians about the economics and environmental benefits of heat pumps. We will collaborate with technicians, educators, and students to refine our evaluation tool and develop a training module on heat pumps.
Engage with the community and increase awareness
Even though it’s not a new technology, the truth is most people simply don’t know much about heat pumps - yet! That’s why we are offering these educational resources in our Learn tab, calculator, and conducting outreach to community groups, HVAC technicians, and teaching organizations. Our focus is on the CCCE service area. We will offer material in both English and Spanish.
